The nominee is an employee or volunteer or a team working in the Criminal Justice System who has been nominated for a Justice Award.
The nominator is an employee or volunteer in the Criminal Justice System who has nominated a colleague or team for a Justice Award.
Eligibility
The Justice Awards are open to anyone working or volunteering within a criminal justice agency in England and Wales. Both individuals and teams are recognised through the scheme.
The criminal justice agencies eligible for the Justice Awards are:

You are eligible for a Justice Award if you volunteer for an organisation that deals with victims, witnesses, defendants or offenders.
Further conditions of eligibility
- Teams can nominate themselves for an award.
- There is no limit to the number of nominations one individual can submit.
- Any team nomination will need to include full contact details of one member of the team who we can communicate with during the nominations process.
- Under the terms of the scheme, judges are not eligible to be nominated.
- Nominees for the Long Service Award must have worked within criminal justice for at least twenty years.
- Teams which include non-criminal justice partners are eligible for a Justice Award, so long as a criminal justice partner is the project lead, and that criminal justice organisations make up the majority of the partnership.
Completing the nomination
You will be asked to complete three sections:
Page one
Set up your nomination by entering your name, the name of the nominee and a piece of memorable data. You don't have to fill in the whole form in one go, but can return to the form and make changes and additions until you click on the submit button on the last page of the form.
The memorable data can be anything you can easily remember, eg. Mother's maiden name, the street where you live, or your pet's name. If you are nominating more than one individual or team, you will need to use the same memorable data for each nomination to ensure we assign all your nominations to your account.
Completing this first section will begin the nomination.
When you have completed this page, you will be sent an email providing you with a direct link to your login screen, where you will be able to access all your nominations.
If you return to this page while on the website, you can login with your email address and memorable data. This will provide access to all your incomplete nominations, and enables you to carry on completing them and editing the existing information you have entered.
Page two
You will be asked to provide further details about yourself and where you work. Please note that all personal information is treated in the strictest confidence and will not be shared with any outside parties.
Page three
Please provide details of the person or team you are nominating. If you are nominating a team, you will be asked to put forward one member of the team to be a named contact for us during the nomination process. Please note that this does not have to be the most senior person in the team.
We will also ask which Local Criminal Justice Board (LCJB) the individual or team works under. There are 42 criminal justice areas in England and Wales, each administered by an LCJB. If you don't know which board you are in, please visit the CJS Online website: lcjb.cjsonline.gov.uk.
Page four
You will be asked to provide details of when the nominee has started, or if nominating a team, when the team began its work.
If you are nominating an individual for the long service award, you will need to let us know if they are retiring this year, and if so, when.
You will be asked to provide details as to why the person or team deserves your nomination. You have a total of 400 words to complete this section.
Points to consider when completing this question:
- What evidence is there to support this nomination - include personal testimony, statistical evidence, reports, quotes, etc.
- Does the person/team demonstrate an outstanding contribution?
- What has been achieved through their work?
- How are they doing something "over and above" their ordinary work?
- Does the person/team's work contribute to helping individuals?
- Does the person/team's work contribute to the community?
- Does the person/team's work contribute to the wider Criminal Justice System?
Please remember that we need as much evidence as possible on the application. Evidence can include:
- any data from particular events or projects;
- figures relating to increased confidence of the public, or performance; and
- personal testimony from people the candidate has served in their work.
You will be asked whether you would like to save your nomination, so you can return to it later to edit it, or submit it. If you click submit, you will not be able to alter the nomination.
Once you have clicked submit, an email will be sent to you with a copy of the nomination confirming that we have received it. Your nomination will also be forwarded to your Local Criminal Justice Board Communications Officer.
Please ensure that you inform the individual or team that you are nominating them. We will be in touch with them throughought the nomination period.
The judge's decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into. Anyone who is nominating or has been nominated for an award is deemed to have given their consent to their entry being used in any Justice Awards publicity or future promotional activities.
